Summer time typically means no school stress—even summer school tends to be less crazy than homework demands during the regular school year. Take some of that extra time and energy to be creative and inspired. Learn a new skill. Start focusing on a new hobby. Think about how you can make a difference.
Start by thinking about something you have always wanted to do but could not really spend enough time on. Or, look at an activity you have always admired someone else for taking part in. You certainly don’t have to master a skill—but that’s totally fab if you do!—just experiencing a part of it is an amazing start. Take dance for example: Just because your friends are at their studio 24/7, you can take one class over the summer or even teach yourself in your room by watching You Tube. Your efforts will feel oh-so good. Choreograph a dance…check!
Another feel good activity that really taps into your creative side is writing. If you are a journal keeper then you know what we mean. It’s fun to write about your day or your feelings. But take it one step further. Find a special notepad or notebook, just for this project. Try to turn your notes into a story. Come up with a title, develop your characters and if you want, share it with family and friends.
Then turn in your pencil and paper for a different kind of paper and markers [link to product] and draw something special. Start with doodles if you want, then move on to something more like landscapes, a portrait, your favorite accessory. The only mistake you can make is to think your pieces have to be perfect, because they don’t. That’s the beauty in art.
