Top Tips to Shoot a Video Haul

Hey girlies! One of the most fun parts about shopping is sharing what you’ve just scored. No wonder video hauls are one of our most favorite videos to watch. Want to get in on the action but don’t know where to start? We’ve got you with this post about the top tips to shoot a video haul.

One of the most important of the top tips to shoot a video haul includes keeping the video to  about 10 minutes long. It’s not necessary to be any longer because you might lose viewers‘ attention. BUT that doesn’t mean you have to worry about that while filming. Since we are sure you are super vid savvy, you can edit, cut, speed up, add graphics etc. later. So just keep rolling and worry about the timing after.

Show your package

The first top tip to shoot a video haul is to show off the package. Whether it’s a delivery on your doorstep or the most bomb “I’m def going to use this to hold my lunch tomorrow,” shopping bag, viewers want to see it. Tell them where your haul is from as you are displaying the packaging.

Set up staging spot

You are going to need space to spread out and either a full length mirror (for fashion) or a vanity mirror for makeup and hair.

Open your box

Keep the suspense up but not for too long. Make sure you’ve got the right materials–like a scissor or box cutter to open and unwrap. You can also take any tissue wrapped goods out of your bags at this point. All the while discuss why you like the brand or their products. Not only does this give viewers more info, but it might get you on the brand’s radar.

The Big Reveal

With a little dramatic effect–like music or close ups to your excited face–take out the first item to share. Lay it out, hold it up, try it on and take a spin around in it. For beauty or hair, show the package, the label, the tool (like the cute pink rollers here), or a dollop of squeeze of the product itself.

Continue with remaining items

Continue step 4 with remaining items, but since this is a post about the top tips to make a video haul, remember people are tuned in for a reason. They want the specifics of what you got, what  inspired you, what it looks like, how it works and more. So while showing off, sound off with all the info.

Share a code if you have

Mention any promo codes you know of and how long each is supposed to last. When you get enough followers, brands might even give you a code of your own to share!).

Come up with a catchy sign off

Can be short and sweet but be sure to tell peeps to follow you and then give them a hint at what’s to come next. That’s the best top tip to shoot a video haul–keep them coming back for more!

Top Tips for Bullet Journals

You are such a busy girl–keeping up with schoolwork, activities, friends, boys and more! And you want to keep track of it all. But doing so takes time, something you don’t have tons to spare. That’s why bullet journaling makes so much sense! “Bu-joing” is quick, easy, super fun and totally  on-trend. Don’t know what exactly it is or how to get started? No worries, we’ve got some of the most amazing top tips for bullet journals so read on!

The book

Pick any notebook or pad to start your bullet journal. Shop in stores, online or make your own. One top tip for bullet journals we saw on seventeen.com is to print dotted grid paper double-sided, fold into a book with a card stock cover, make holes in the spine and tie with twine.

Organize

Another of the key top tips for bullet journals is to make sure you have categories that make sense for you. Turn each page or spread (two facing pages) into a space for each by labeling at top. Include to-do list, daily log, weekly log, monthly log, future log (your calendars), events, homework, friends, goals and more.

Page numbers

When you start, one of the top tips for bullet journals is to number each page. You can start with the first few and number as you move on. This is important as it goes back to the index (that’s where you’ll add the page numbers to categories; see below). It’s how you will be able to find stuff easily in your bu-jo. Therefore, it’s a step you don’t want to skip.

Index

You will need to start with an Index so that you can easily find what you are looking for. Mark all your categories there. As you add entries to your bullet journal you can add in the page number to the index. So when creating the index, leave plenty of room for future add-ins.

Symbols

What’s different about bu-joing than regular journaling or keeping a diary is the symbols next to the bulleted lists. These  make notes, tasks, events instantly and easily recognizable. An “o” bullet is used for events. Use a traditional bullet for tasks. A less than sign means that a task is scheduled. A greater than sign means a task needs to be migrated or moved forward to the next day, week or month. A dash is used for notes, which are facts, ideas, and observations. Even more fun? There are signifiers to further identify your lists, like an asterisk for priority. An exclamation point or inspiration. An eye symbol to explore more. Or make up your own! Just be sure to log all into a key on your front or back page so you know what you are looking at!

Accessories

Last of our top tips for bullet journals? Having a stash of pretty pens and other pieces like stickers makes the process even more inspired.

Would love to see what your bullet journal looks like–post them and tag us!

Did You Know?

It takes almost a year to make a new product–from the first DREAM TANK brainstorm meetings with our Sugar Lulu Girls. We sort through and take the best idea. Then we work with our designers to create concept sketches. Next they create manufacturing drawings to show the factory how to make it. After that we design and write the copy for the package. Next it’s time for a photo shoot with our Sugar Lulu Girls for the package image, (one of our fave parts of the process), then manufacture and safety test, and then test again with our girls to make sure the final product passes their inspection for glam and fun (check out this pic of @janai_olive_rose_johnson @sisimorris @matty_nev and @officialalectra testing them out during a break from a shoot in NYC! Top Closet Pieces to Mix and Match

Making the most of your wardrobe means top closet pieces to mix and match that can turn just a few outfits into tons. Even if you have already done your back-to-school shopping, maybe you’ve picked up some styles that can go with this and that. Then, for when your budget and parents allow… here are a few more ideas for top closet pieces to mix and match.

Sporty white sneaks

A pair from brands like Adidas or Puma are super popular and, as a result, can go with a lot from cropped jeans to a denim skirt.

Vintage tops

Check out new tees from old school designers like Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger. Or hit thrift stores for authentic finds. In addition, look for old/new flannels and a jean jacket too!

Denim mini skirt

Pair this with almost anything like your favorite tee or frilly top. Also strap on lace-up sandals or a pair of the aforementioned sporty white sneaks.

Frayed jeans

Straight leg, cropped or even a pair of flared, make sure you’ve got one pair with free flowing hems. To fray them yourself, trim off sewn hem and pull out strings. Toss them in the dryer to give the hems a lived-in look.

Velvet anything

Whether you go for a pair of pants or more subtle with a headband, velvet is all the rage and because you can wear one piece with so many outfits it’s a perfect mix and match piece.

Patterned fabric

Make your leggings make a statement or just the sleeves of your shirt. Then mix and match them with any basic top or bottom that makes them work.

It bag

Your ultimate school accessory is either your bag or backpack—since you’ve got it for books and pens or to tote after-school gear. Go for a backpack or duffel in velvet, shiny patent leather, mesh  or canvas covered in pins. Carry on, girls!

Customize Your School Supplies in Fabulous DIY Style

One of the best parts about going back to school is shopping for the rad new school supplies that you get to use in class, put up in your locker and carry around as swag in your backpack. Only problem? Typically others have been to the local spot for school supplies too or hit up the same online store you did so they’ve got the same stuff. No worries. You can personalize  your school supplies so they reflect you and your inner design star. Not only do you get to strut your style by customizing your school supplies but ultimately you can also identify what’s yours from those pesky people who love to “borrow” but not return.

Pens and Pencils

For starters, wrap pens and pencils in ribbons and top them with a character eraser or a faux fur pom-pom. Maybe consider color coordinating the ribbon with the accoutrement on top. Or use metal stamps to hammer designs into wood pencils or even “write your name.” Another idea? Download these pencil wraps in four different prints that fit perfectly on standard number 2 pencils. Just cut out and affix with a swipe of modge podge.

Books

Cover textbooks to make the perfect palette for favorite quotes, a poem, pics of friends or a sketch/drawing. Measure a piece of heavy duty paper—we especially like white and kraft color—that’s one inch longer and wider all around than your book when it’s open with both covers splayed out. Fold in sides of paper so that it is aligned on top and bottom of book. Fold over the covers of both books and tape to secure. You can also create fun book marks to keep track of your where you are in reading assignments. These downloadable ones that you add a decorative ribbon to work well on both textbooks and English class novels.

Folders

In addition, personalize your folders by marking up with strips of washi tape that comes in tons of fun colors and designs. Or go a more organized route with specialized printable labels that mark your subject front and center.

Birthday Gifts for Besties

Birthday party invites are super fun to get but attending with an original gift in hand can be super tricky to maneuver. Yep, we are sure that lots of your girlies will love a cute Brandy shirt as much as the next (we do!), but sometimes, especially for your besties, you want to kick it up a notch.

So, we say, instead of looking for that one perfect something, why don’t you get a few items that would make perfect sense together in a basket? Now, don’t worry, we’re not suggesting those few items are each at the top of your budget. Instead consider less pricey things that she would love and get her more of them. Then you can wrap them all together in a cute container or just in some colorful fabric or cellophane for an equally fabulous presentation.

If your soul sister is obsessed with spas, perfecto. Put together a package that will leave her spending hours pampering herself: get (or make) a yummy scented bath balm, some lotions, a mani/pedi set with some fun nail colors, some facial masks and of course a cute hair band to keep her locks off her face.

If fashion is her thing, go for accessories overload! Think of everything from hair ties, sunglasses, necklaces, bracelets, rings, tattoos and socks. If you want to add to it with a substantial item, think about a jewelry armoire or a decorative box in which she can hold some of the gear—and that can double as a spot to place the goods when you wrap them up.

For a beauty girl, shower her with makeup. Lip glosses, eye shadows and liners, mascara, blushes, bronzers, brushes and nail polishes. And don’t make them all full size—if there are some things you know she’s never used, look for them in trial containers so she can test out a few new treats. Put it all in a box or a basket that she can set out for display.

Or, if your bestie rocks a bunch of different desires, then get a basket that mixes it all up from art supplies to fashion bits, stuff to decorate her room and more!

Whatever you decide, don’t forget to include a card that comes straight from your heart.

Bag and Towel

For starters, take a good bag [link to product] that’s holds a lot but is also easy to clear of sand when you get home. Fill it with an oversized towel (one that’s round is super on-trend) that you can sit on in the sand and wrap yourself in after riding the waves.
