When everybody is planning their candy scoring route, you’re knee-deep in Halloween party planning 101. You are all about bringing the joys of trick-or-treating indoors for a festive celebration with your bffs.
Halloween Party Planning 101 Decor
Let’s start with décor. You must set out a jack-o-lantern or two on your front steps. That not only sets the tone, but tells guests they are in the right place. Take the time to carve them—look for tools and designs at your local pumpkin patch or market where you’ve purchased these orange orbs. Or check online for decorating ideas to make the most fabulous designs. Then get busy hanging any kind of skeletons or ghosts—you can make a boo-tastic one yourself with a pillow case and an oversized rubber band—and suspend them from clear fishing wire. And there’s so much more. Your style can also be part of the decor with Halloween inspired leggings and tops that get you in the spirit!
Halloween Party Planning 101 Activities
For activities, we’re fans of mini pumpkin decorating (so your friends can take theirs home), baking stations for coconut ghost macaroons, even good old-fashioned bobbing for apples. Just make sure you plan a few stations to keep your guests entertained. And make sure you’ve got the lights dimmed, some battery operated candles lit, monster mash music playing and, potentially, a movie like Transylvania or the Wizard of Oz projected on a wall.
Halloween Party Planning 101 Food
You can also get super creative with the food and drink you serve…anybody up for a little spaghetti and red sauce? Somehow it takes on a bit more gore and drama on this night. Or freeze blueberries in an ice tray with red and yellow food coloring, then serve them in a punch bowl for major googley eyes. Why serve any old hot dog in a bun? Slice out a sliver of the outer skin on the top of one side and make a few slices across the length of the hot dog—pour on a little ketchup in a bun to make it look like a bloody hot dog finger. It’s so yuck it’s yum!
Halloween Party Planning 101 The Candy!
The for the piece de resistance? The candy, of course. Take a hint from our favorite candy bars—varying heights and width of containers can hold everything from M&Ms and licorice bites (okay to have unwrapped candy at your house; just provide small plastic bags and scoopers) to the sought after traditional wrapped mini candy bars that friends would have had to walk the neighborhood for. Set it out but cover it with a piece of black velvet and do the final reveal at the end of the night.
We love to celebrate everything—especially our friends. And we like to do it just a little more when international Friendship Day hits the calendar this month. And why not? Our friends are our go-tos for everything from secrets to sleepovers, giggles, shopping and more! Here, the top ten reasons to prove you are besties!
- You tell each other everything Including the same story, over and over again.
- Mi Casa su Casa. You are just as comfortable hanging out at her house with her family (and super cute older brother) as you are at/with yours.
- You think alike. You name it: clothes, movies, friends, boys—you are always on the same wavelength. And when you’re not, you appreciate what the other one thinks.
- You both are really happy for the other one’s success. There’s no weird jealousy between the two of you. You love how happy she gets when she gets good grades and she is your biggest cheerleader when you score big at dance competitions.
- She is the BEST gift giver. She just gets you
- Her lips are sealed. You can trust her with your deepest secrets and she knows she can trust you.
- She can always make you laugh. Even when you are having a yuck day, she can get a giggle from you—and you like to make her smile too.
- You can count on each other. Need help studying or doing an annoying chore? You are there for each other no matter what.
- You trust her opinion. Sometimes parents and siblings just don’t get it. But she does and you value what she has to say a lot.
It’s official. You’ve got the friendship bracelet to prove it—and they’re matching, of course, because you love the same things
Summer time typically means no school stress—even summer school tends to be less crazy than homework demands during the regular school year. Take some of that extra time and energy to be creative and inspired. Learn a new skill. Start focusing on a new hobby. Think about how you can make a difference.
Start by thinking about something you have always wanted to do but could not really spend enough time on. Or, look at an activity you have always admired someone else for taking part in. You certainly don’t have to master a skill—but that’s totally fab if you do!—just experiencing a part of it is an amazing start. Take dance for example: Just because your friends are at their studio 24/7, you can take one class over the summer or even teach yourself in your room by watching You Tube. Your efforts will feel oh-so good. Choreograph a dance…check!
Another feel good activity that really taps into your creative side is photography. Perfect landscape pics or some of your favorite peeps. Practice on a real camera or on your phone camera. You’d be surprised by all the likes and comments you’ll start getting!
And while we know it’s not time for school yet, enjoy a little free-form writing. If you are a journal keeper then you know what we mean. It’s fun to write about your day or your feelings. But take it one step further. Find a special notepad or notebook, just for this project. Try to turn your notes into a story. Come up with a title, develop your characters and if you want, share it with family and friends.
Then turn in your pencil and paper for a different kind of paper and markers and draw something special. Start with doodles if you want, then move on to something more like landscapes, a portrait, your favorite accessory. The only mistake you can make is to think your pieces have to be perfect, because they don’t. That’s the beauty in art.
If you’re lucky enough to be spending any time by the beach this summer, it’s a fabulous opportunity to be fashion-forward and decked out with must-have gear.
Bag and Towel
For starters, take a good bag that’s holds a lot but is also easy to clear of sand when you get home. Fill it with an oversized towel (one that’s round is super on-trend) that you can sit on in the sand and wrap yourself in after riding the waves.
Goggles and Clothes
Pack a smaller bag to fit inside the beach bag
with items like goggles and a change of clothes that you can also put a wet bathing suit in after you change.
Stuff to do in the Sand
If you’re spending the day at the beach, pack some stuff to keep you busy. A good book and waterproof speakers are two good ideas. And if you’re going to spend your time just sitting in the sun, pack plenty of sunscreen, even for those hazy days.
Snacks and Sips
It’s important to keep yourself hydrated and nourished when out in the sun. Pack some snacks like fruits and nuts, energy bars, even PB&J sandwiches (cut them into shapes with cookie cutters to be super cute).
Make sure to take plenty of pictures in plenty of poses because beach pics get some of the highest likes on insta—and if you’re there for sunset, then that’s just bonus points!
With school way in your review mirror and next year not even a blip on your radar yet, sleepovers are not just for weekends anymore. With a week’s worth of nights that you can hang overnight with your bffs, there’s lots of planning to be done. After all, there’s so much more fun to be had than just sitting on your phones all night. There’s always time to post to insta later!
Make a Plan/Plan a Theme
Write out a rough plan including a timeline for how you want the evening to unfold. Include activities, snack times and movie time. No need to stick to it exactly, but it’s a good guide to have if there is any lull during the night.
Decorate Your Space
Hang up welcome signs, fun posters or pics of your pals as festive décor for the night. You can even arrange sleeping bags or blankets in a fun pattern, like a spiral, or set out little gifts along a wall or on the sleeping area.
No matter how “mature” your friends may be, everyone loves a creative project—especially if you ask them to drop their cell phones in a bag by the door (you can have people pick from the cell sack later and whose cell phone they pick is who they sleep next to!). Don’t expect people to be spending the whole night at it, but a quick project is always a good time. Think of beading bracelets or necklaces, decoupaging wooden frames with magazine cutouts, or playing fab card games.
No sleepover feels just right without the perfect just-for-girls movie. And no just-for-girls movie feels just right without a big bowl of popcorn. Pop enough for everyone and then create a self-serve popcorn bar where your bffs can help themselves, complete with mini bowls and toppings including melted milk chocolate, melted white chocolate, caramel sauce and mini M&Ms. Yummy!
With summer in full swing, we are rocking swimsuits almost every day. So ever the Sugar Lulu girl, you want to add what’s super on-trend for the beach or poolside to your already fabulous stash. In celebration of National Bikini Day on July 5th, we are sharing the must-have fashions for swimsuits this summer—and it’s not just bikinis that are on point. One piece suits in all sorts of styles, prints and colors are scoring some of the most perfect looks too! Read below to see what’s hot and don’t forget to pair them with your favorite flip flops, beach bag and chic sunnies!
Ruffles and piping are all the rage. Look for the flouncy flairs and crisp edging along top and bottom hems of bikinis or along the neckline and across the waist of one pieces. Both ruffles and piping can add a monochromatic detail to suits or one made from complementing colors and patterns.
Even the most solid one piece gets a little edgy with cut out patterns along the side seams or bodice. Some suits sport a simple cut out for effect while others might tie together a series of them—literally—with a lace-up look. One tip: If you go for this style, don’t forget to cover the exposed spots with plenty of sunscreen!
Colors and Patterns
Graphic tees and colorful prints translate well to bathing suits—and are all the rage this season. Look for any kind of florals, from vintage to bold, as well as tropical scenes (think palm trees and sunsets) and sweet to eat fruits. Then there are the sweet summer sayings that you can wear so well. Don’t forget to look for suits in all the summer’s hottest colors, especially neons and metallics.
